Our Story

IMG_2811.jpg

Back in 2020 Matthew served in the South Korean military, where he would face many injustices and abuse occurring in the base. Having broken his back from an injury, Matthew could not walk and thus did not have any 'power' in the barracks to create change. Yet despite his limitations, Matthew still fought and ultimately was able to make powerful changes. He since realized, one did not need power to be powerful. Coming back from the military, he wished to spread this message to those who may not believe in their potential--especially children in vulnerable communities. Hence Dear Power was created and through a powerful team many dreams since have been planted.

Matthew graduated from WashU in the spring of 2024 with a major in cognitive neuroscience and a minor in music. Some of his favorite memories from Dear Power include celebrating the end of each semester with donuts and snacks alongside team members, while reflecting together on the amazing memories created with the children.
